Aperantos Ltd. is the business name for Michael James, an independant computer consultant based in South London. After gaining a BTEC National Diploma in Computing, Michael worked for several years as an network access administrator until leaving to read Philsophy at the University of Hull in 1999. During vacations he worked as an independant consultant on various development contracts. Following graduation he established Aperantos Ltd, originally based in Kingston-upon-Hull before moving to South London in the summer of 2003.

Highlights

Previous projects for which Michael has been responsible have included:

  • PHP & MySQL: Development of bespoke e-commerce web site.
  • Linux: Implementation of small business server using Samba to provide an NT domain based network.
  • Visual Basic: Application to manage user accounts and shared directories, within Windows NT 4.
  • Lotus Notes R5: Application to provide workflow for access requests and automation of ID management functions, including managing stored ID files.
  • Lotus Notes R4.5: Secure application to provide workflow for requesting access to shared accounts and secure management of associated passwords.

In addition to the above he has also been involved in a number of other projects including the migration from a VAX VMS network to Windows NT, the migration of Lotus Notes from a Windows NT platform to the IBM iSeries, and major Lotus Notes release upgrades from R3 to R4.5, and R4.5 to R5.

In January 2003 Michael was the spotlighted member on IBM's Lotus Developer Domain (formerly notes.net).

Platforms and systems

Rather than focus on any particular platform he is highly adept at learning new systems as required and able to extend skills learned in one area to another. Development work has ranged from VMS DCL and Unix shell scripts to Visual Basic and Objective-C, including extensive development experience within Louts Notes. Administration has centred around Lotus Notes, Microsoft Windows, and more recently Linux servers.
